Landguard Fort is to be
found on the South side of Felixstowe over looking the entrance
to the River Orwell estuary. The fort we see today is
mainly of eighteenth century creation. At the present time
there is a lot of repair work going on, but considering the age
of the place it is in remarkable condition. It was here
during the seventeenth century during the reign of Charles 2nd
that a invasion by the Dutch was repelled.
It was during August 2001 that we visited the fort.
English Heritage are guardian of this site and I believe when
work is complete they will have a little gem of an attraction on
their hands here. |
