FRAMLINGHAM

We visited Framlingham castle during August 2001.

The castle originates from the Norman times during the eleventh century.  The actual castle keep is not there any more but the curtain wall around the outside is virtually complete and well worth a visit if in the area.  You can still walk all the way around the curtain wall, and on good days this offers wonderful views of the local area.

The castle is in the hands of English Heritage and within the castle grounds there is also a museum and the remains of a local poor house that was built on the inside of the curtain wall.

The castle as had a long and varied history of struggles with and against royality.
