Tattershall Castle is local to our home town of Horncastle.
The keep which is pictured to your right is basically all that
remains of the castle with the original curtain walls and other
building long gone. The keep though is quite a landmark
around our local vicinity. The Keep that you see today was
built during the early part of the fifteenth century by Ralph,
3rd Baron Cromwell on top of a 12th century stone keep.
Tattershall castle is unusual in that it is built out of bricks
instead of the more usual stone. The castle nowadays is in the
care of the National trust and as recently under gone some
restoration work to help maintain it for future generations. |
