GRETNA

We have been to Gretna on several occasions.  Most recently our visits have been to go and stop a few days with a cousin of mine called Jeffrey.

Gretna is a lovely little town just over the Scottish border in Dumphrieshire.

There is a place there called the Old Blacksmiths shop where people years ago used to go to if they wanted to get married, but didn't have their parents consent.  They were married over the anvil.  Ceremonies are still held there to this day.

Many thousands of people visit here every year on there way further north or further south, to visit the many and varied gift shops and tartan shops.

The town is a must for anyone making there first journey up to the Scottish Highlands.
